The Cottrell Cottage
Built around 1910, you’ll go back in time when you step foot in this newly restored Dogtrot Cottage. Sitting on top of a mountain in Shirley, this is one of the few dogtrots still standing in Arkansas. The house was originally designed with open-ended passage that runs through the center of a house, flanked by two enclosed living spaces. The living room has been restored to how it would have looked in the early 1900’s. Each room in the house is themed for a different decade. The home sits on 1 acre of land with plenty of room for parking cars, ATVs, boats, etc. Two screened in porches and a large covered front porch makes it ideal for outdoor enjoyment. For an additional $35 fee, you can have private access to our riverfront land on the Middle Fork of the Little Red River about a 3.5 mile drive from the house.

This was a nice, relaxing place to stay after a long day of driving. Wish we'd been prepared more to get a license to fish. The decor is... read more unique and interesting and you can tell that this family has a lot of fond memories gathering there. We will be back!

We had a really awesome time staying here! It was spacious and easy to get to. We loved the fishing decor and design. Our two dogs had a blast in... read more the yard, I know they didn’t want to leave! We had fun fishing and taking the canoe out on the lake. The people in Mayflower were nice and we enjoyed being in a small town. We were also a short drive to both Conway and Little Rock. We would stay here again if we were in the area no doubt!

First and foremost—W-O-W. Emily’s hospitality was off the charts amazing and better than we have ever experienced at any AirBNB before, and we have traveled the world, so I hope... read more you (you, reading this review) know that’s saying a lot.
My wife and I evacuated from New Orleans for Hurricane Ida and decided to come up to one of our favorite places to camp—Mount Petit Jean. We originally only booked 3 nights, but upon finding out that southeast Louisiana was devastated by Ida, Emily made sure the rest of the week was available for us if we needed to extend our stay (we did!). The location was nearby so many beautiful sights, and the home itself was on a very peaceful lot. We even saw some deer!
Mammaw’s Mountaintop Retreat was clean, spacious (the bedroom may even be bigger than our master at home!), and perfectly accommodated. The washer and dryer certainly came in handy, the master shower was dreamy, and the kitchen was excellently equip and suited all our needs. And don’t even get me started on the porch—it was PERFECT for sitting outside in the rain. We also used the pit to grill veggies and the smoker to make some smoked turkey legs. Needless to say, we made sure to utilize absolutely everything offered. It was a true luxury to have all these amenities.
We also were only about 1 minute away from our favorite fudge spot in the world (The Outpost) where we got ice cream cones, fudge, and house-made turtles that are can-t-believe-it-good. It’s well stocked with other locally made goods and other outdoor-type gear that could come in handy.
We didn’t get a chance to visit the new Coffeehouse 2 lots down, which wasn’t there last time we were on Petit Jean, but it definitely looks nice, clean, and has a beautiful patio.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend any Airbnb we have ever stayed in more than I recommend this one.Amanda

Such a great place to stay! It’s right outside the park entrance, spotless and homey and has plenty of room to spread out and play.
I definitely came... read more for the retreat aspect and just brought the dog with me, but I’d absolutely come back with family or friends!
Kitchen is fully stocked with just about every pot, pan and non-speciality utensil you could need. Plenty of dishes and servingware, too! Little extra touches and “in case you forgot yours” things (salt and pepper were the things I forgot) make the whole house great!
On top of the fun theme, everything is great quality: Egyptian cotton towels, great, solid, new mattresses, feather pillows and spare fans in every bedroom. And the master shower is outstanding!
Pet friendly - they even had dog bowls - and really private. You might leash up at first if your dog is a “chaser of things,” though! We had a little possum and troupe of does visit in the back during our visit.
Outdoor cooking area is fantastic! I didn’t have grilling or smoker ambitions this time, but the fire pit was a lot of fun.Katherine
